What you will learn
The most common process used for the desalination of brackish water or seawater is reverse osmosis. This process is based on the reversal of the natural phenomenon of osmosis which occurs when two solutions with different salinities are separated by a semipermeable membrane. In this course, the theory of reverse osmosis and the properties of the membranes used will be presented. We will then examine the operating parameters of a reverse osmosis system as well as the different configurations possible. Finally, the important issue of membrane clogging will be discussed.
